ESL One Birmingham 2019’s playoff stage was providing us

with a lot of fantastic Dota 2 action with elimination series through the day. While

we already said goodbye to Team Liquid, two more teams would meet their end at

the event before the day was done.

The International 2018 champions bow out

OG and Team Secret both did not have great showings in the

group stage of ESL One Birmingham 2019, but had done enough to reach the lower

bracket of the event – unfortunately they would face each other in their opening

elimination series. The first game saw Secret reach nearly a kill per minute as

they ended in just over half an hour, without OG really able to make much of an

  impact.

It didn’t get any better for OG in the next game with a Ludwig

‘zai’ W?hlberg Mars getting picked up by Secret. In less than 30-minutes this

time, they took control of the game and destroyed their opponents, sending OG

packing from the United Kingdom. Team Secret will now move on in the lower

bracket to face TNC Predator tomorrow – where they will both fight for their

  tournament lives.

  Gambit continue the upsets

After a surprising victory over Team Liquid to open the day, Gambit continued to cause huge upsets in the lower bracket with what is turning into a very interesting under-dog story. The CIS squad’s next opponent would be Major-winning Vici Gaming – and it was no problem for Gambit. The squad absolutely crushed the series in a quick 2-0 series, leaving nothing but the fallen heroes of their opponent in their wake.

Game two saw Alexander ‘Immersion’ Hmelevskoy playing a god-like Earth Spirit, going 17/1/18 over the 30-minute game, which is a new record for support kills within that time period.

It seemed like there was no stopping Gambit Esports at this

point in the event, but their next opponent would be either Secret or TNC

Predator – but we’re all hoping for the underdog story to continue all the way

  to the end.

With that intense series, the first day of playoffs at ESL

One Birmingham 2019 comes to an end. Tomorrow we will see the upper bracket

finals as well as saying goodbye to two more teams in the lower bracket.
